As voting by mail has become an integral part of this election, BallotReady has developed our Vote by Mail Engine to help voters request and return their ballots. Along with this new development, we've created a data studio to aggregate and report data from voters that visit your site.
How to use the dashboard
At first glance, your dashboard will look like some charts, graphs, and numbers, but almost every chart has extra functionality to bring you more insights.
Both at the top of the dashboard and above the pie chart section at the bottom of the sheet, there are filters that allow you to show only data from a certain segment of users.
To use the filters, just click inside the rectangle, and then click on the check-box to include or exclude each value (the check-box next to the name of the filter allows you to select or deselect all boxes.
The filters at the top of the page apply to every chart and the dimensions that we break down are By Mail? and In Person?, which show whether a user clicked the by mail or in person or not on your site, tenant_id which only applies if you have more than one tenant, US State which filters into each state. Note that our address splitting is not perfect, so some users will have a null value for state.
For the pie chart filters, we include utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, and utm_term to break down your users by acquisition type, as well as device_type (mobile or desktop), and intro_step__get_started_clicked which is true when users begin the make a plan to vote flow, allowing you to filter out voter guide or slate card users.
Anytime you see two arrows in the top right of a chart, you can click the up or down arrow to show a different dimension. Google Data Studio refers to this as drilling down or drilling up. It allows you to see completion rates for utm source, medium, campaign, content, and term all in one chart as well as seeing users on a map broken down by state and city.
Some charts have the ability to show and hide optional metrics. This is indicated by an icon that looks like a small chart with a gear. By clicking the icon, you can select which metrics to view in each chart.
